Brett was born May 4th, 1973 in Cleveland, Ohio. Growing up in the inner city of Cleveland was not an easy
life for him or for most children due to Gangs, drugs, poverty and many other factors.
"Growing up in Cleveland will make or break a person. I have gone through a lot, too much to mention in
this article. But if you face those things head on & survive, then we should learn & grow from that. We should try
to make a positive mark in this world", said Brett.
At the age of 9 Brett watched his first professional wrestling video tape of wrestlers from "back in
the day" with stars like Bruno Sanmartino, Chief Wahoo McDaniel, and many others that caught his eye. "There
physical ability was amazing and you could tell that they had a huge amount of respect for wrestling" said Brett.
At that time in Brett's life he was also involved in Karate, but he had more of an interest in grappling,
so he joined the local recreation center's wrestling program at age 11. Brett excelled at the program and he continued training.
Even at a young age Brett realized the importance of working out.
In 1984 Brett witnessed the birth of Hulkamania when he saw Hulk Hogan defeat the Iron Sheik for the WWF
world title. At that point in his life he knew this is the direction he wanted to go. Brett continued to take Karate &
Wrestling classes and at the age of 13 he attended his first WWF event.
That event added inspiration to his dreams. Brett continued to attend and watch as many wrestling shows
as possible. A few years went by and at the age of 17 Brett attended a WCW event and ran into some stars from the
WCW and NCWA.
NCWA had a training center in the Cleveland area ran by "Psycho" Mike Brown, Terry "Bear" Bryant and
"Spanish Fly" Angel Torres. Brett began his training in December 1990 and soon had his first match in September of 1991.
Brett wrestled as "The American Warrior" from September 1991 to December 1991. In January of 1992
Brett changed his ring name to "The American Patriot." For the next 2 years Brett continued to sharpen his
skills by wrestling a couple matches a month for the NCWA.

In July of 1993 Brett got his first title shot against JT Lightning in a new company called Cleveland All
Pro Wrestling for the United States Light Heavyweight Championship. Brett was victorious against Lightning winning the title.

In 1994 Brett took notice that the fans started to call him "Patriot" instead of "The American Patriot."
Brett shortened his title to "Patriot" Brett Powers and fans loved it. Brett continued to successfully
defended the title on many occasions. In March of 1995 Brett lost the title to Outlaw Johnny Walker in one of CAPW's
Bloodiest brawls ever.
Pictured below: Brett stands in the ring after his
1995 street fight match against Johnny Walker and JT Lightning. Jt Lightning was key factor in Walker winning
the title.
Outlaw was stripped of the title that same night due to his actions in the match as well as JT
Lightning's interference. The CAPW Light Heavyweight title was now vacant. That night changed the life of Brett Powers forever.
Johnny Walker and JT Lightning beat on Brett like nothing that was ever seen in a wrestling ring before.
Brett took everything that JT and Johnny could dish out. One fan stated "I seen some
tough matches but this one was amazing. Brett was beaten on bad and kept going, he never gave up"!
The brutality that Brett faced in that match gave him a craving for Extreme and he found
it in Hardcore Wrestling. Brett then teamed up with Biff Beverly and they formed Powerteam USA and battled Pain &
Agony in a bitter hardcore feud that even WWF/WCW superstar Mick Foley said he was proud of.
The pictures below are from the first match that Powerteam
USA had against Pain & Agony. It was a street fight match. (1995)
Brett gained many Tag Team, US, Hardcore, and World titles over the years.

In May 2010 BRETT became THE SEVEN TIME WORLD CHAMPION!!!!!!!!!!!!! after he regained the World Title from
JT Lightning and it all happened in less than seven seconds. JT made a mistake when he made a challenge to anyone in the locker
room. Brett went to the ring and rolled JT up for the 1, 2, 3! JT expressed his anger over losing the title but it was clear
that the Officials reinstated Brett after they reviewed the video of JT putting his foot on the ropes to gain the victory
over Brett.. JT was unaware of the Officials decision and got a taste of his own medicine. "This was a proud moment for me,
that is winning the title back from JT Lightning."
Anyone wanting to be a wrestler, "PLEASE!!!! take the time to do it right and get into a proper
training program. We owe our respect to the wrestlers before us for making this sport as great and entertaining
as it is today. We should all do are part to leave a good mark and a positive lasting impression."
"One important thing I can say is my dream came true
of having the opportunity of being in this great sport of wrestling. I have wrestled WWE/WCW/ECW/TNA superstars as well
as many up and coming stars.
It's been a pleasure to have this opportunity in my life. To all the ones who have
helped me along the way, Thank You!!!!!!! I will always remember and respect every one of you!!! I believe If you have
a dream GO FOR IT! Believe in yourself, stay positive and train hard! May God bless us all and this beautiful world that
we all have the privilege to live in.
